Weightless Multi-Tasking Hydrating Facial Oil

Weightless Multi-Tasking Hydrating Facial Oil

       If you are looking for a new skincare product and you have dry skin, I think I might have something for you. I was introduced to Biossance by a friend. She got a sample of 100% Squalane Oil, but her skin is on the oily side and I guess it didn’t work out for her…lucky me!

Multi-Tasking Facial Oil That Works for Dry and Oily Skin

     I will be honest. My first impression from the get go is that their products are on the pricey side, but they are so worth it. The full-size bottle of Squalane Oil goes for $58. I know, it’s a bit crazy…but the best part is that they offer a sample size for $14. That sample will be enough for you to figure out if this product is worth the investment for you.

     Side note: they are offering 25% off on all of the products until August 28, 2018 when shop through their website. Also, you get $15 for referring a friend. So hurry up!

Oil that Hydrates Face, Body and Hair

    So what’s squalane? I love brands that educate you about their products and the ingredients they use. The Biossance website explains:

You may or may not have heard of squalane, but your skin has. The human body produces its own version (known as squalene), but the amount made and retained in the skin decreases over time. It peaks in our teens and then starts to decline in our 20’s, leaving skin rough, dry and vulnerable.

        After using it for about two weeks on a daily basis, my skin felt moisturized and that annoying dullness has disappeared. This product has given life and glow to my skin, which is so hard to achieve for a girl with dry skin. The good news: This oil is meant for all skin types, so don’t let the word “oil” scare you off. It doesn’t contain fragrance, which is really something you must watch out for when choosing your next skincare product. It’s also non-toxic and hypoallergenic.

Facial Oil that Instantly Hydrates and Locks in Essential Moisture.

Just a few tips:

  • You can use it for adding moisture to your cuticles, as well as your hands;
  • You can add a drop or two of the oil to your body lotion if your skin feels extra dry;
  • Same tip goes for your hair;

     My routine with it is pretty simple: I use this oil by itself at night and also in the morning before applying my moisturizer. Pretty certain this product will stay on my shelf for a long time!

7 Tips to Help Your Photoshoots Run Smoothly

7 Tips to Help Your Photoshoots Run Smoothly

     You would think that being a blogger puts me in a category of people that feel very comfortable in front of the camera. Photoshoots are my least favorite part of the blogging journey, but it happens to be the most important one sooooo long story short, there are some things you simply must do as a blogger. The day we decided to launch Next Destination: Style, we also made the decision to hire a photographer. And here are just a few reasons why:

  • I personally don’t know much about cameras, and that would have just added another thing that I would have needed to learn to start blogging. Hiring a photographer simply saved me lots of time.
  • Quality photography is something you must invest in if you are trying to make your blog look professional, and trust me, people will notice the difference.
  • Photographers are professionals, and the pictures they take are better quality than photos taken by your annoyed friends or a family member.

Here are some tips for making your photoshoots go as smoothly as possible:

       1. Decide on the mood. Photography is an art. Remember that every picture will have its own spirit and a message that it sends. Think of what you are trying to show off. Do you want to highlight certain pieces of your outfit, the location you are shooting, travel vibes? In this photoshoot, I wore this purple scarf in a couple of different ways while also trying to channel a California vibe here in Chicago, which I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish without my amazing photographer: Lua Photo.

    2. Location. In my book, location comes even before the outfit. The backdrop and scenery sets a particular mood that I use as inspiration when shopping for pieces to create my looks. But that’s not it. Scouting locations beforehand will save you time and money. Looking for locations at the last minute can be pretty stressful. You might get lucky and find someplace that is insta-worthy and cute along the way, but it’s better to plan ahead. That’s the best tip to consider when you are planning to get some shots in a local restaurant, hotel or coffee shop. Trust my experience: Call and ask first before strolling in with a professional photographer because some places won’t allow that. It’s also a great opportunity to ask if you can come in before the place opens up, which will give you much more freedom to get creative with the place. Plus, doing so means there is no need to photoshop people out of the image later on.

Side note: At the end of the day, it’s important that what you are wearing flows with the color scheme and, of course, the background of your location.

Stand out in these chunky, hollow hoop earrings, found only at Urban Outfitters. Shiny, metal open-ended hoop that puts a bold spin on a classic look.

         3. Look for inspiration. Time to scroll through Pinterest boards and save some pins for inspiration. It’s not only useful for you, but also for your photographer. A couple of days before the shoot, I shared some boards on Pinterest with mine and I think that was helpful for both of us to get an idea of the style and mood that we were going for. There is nothing more important than being able to translate your vision to the photographer, and what could be more helpful than saved Instagram pictures or Pinterest boards.

      4. Prepare you looks in advance. Staying organized is the key to success. Pull your looks together the day before. Take some pictures showing all of the details of your outfit, including shoes and jewelry. You would be surprised how many looks you can achieve by simply switching, adding or removing some accessories. And what is the best way to remember all of that when you have only two seconds to change outfits? The easiest way is to have it all stored on your phone. I would suggest creating a catalog of looks, which you may even want to share with your photographer so they can envision what you’re going for as well. You would be surprised how serious some photographers are about their job.

Side note: If you are thinking of changing your hair for one of the photos or adding a bright lipstick, for example, try to do that during the last few pictures. I have learned this lesson the hard way from trying to find makeup remover in the middle of nowhere in NYC at 8:00 am.

     5. Practice your poses. Find what fits you as well as the look you have created. If you’ve been inspired by poses  on Pinterest and the like, test those out in front of a mirror beforehand. I always take some quick snapshots ahead of time to see what I will look like in those poses. Keep in mind that photoshoots can get chaotic, and it’s easy to forget what you wanted to achieve in your photos while remembering your best angles.

      6. Bring makeup and hair products along. You will need to retouch after you switch from one look to the next or when you have to pull your hair up. That’s when hairspray really comes in handy, especially if your hair tends to  frizzy easily. Welcome to Chicago.

      7. Involve a friend. It is always nice to have someone who can help carry bags around (haha). A third party can also be very helpful for the photographer when she/he needs to get the light game on, so promise your friend two professional pictures or even drinks afterwards…few friends can say no to that.

        Once you do more photoshoots, you will find what works best for you. The only thing I can’t promise is that it will be easy, but it will certainly be fun. But hey, remember that nothing that is worth doing comes easy. Leave your tips in the comments below! Maybe we can learn from you as well!

Jumpsuits Are My New Summer Love

Jumpsuits Are My New Summer Love

        If we had to pick our favorite outfits of this spring/summer so far, not one but several pieces from  would have made it on the list. We learned about this online shop from a friend, and even got to meet the owner who just recently launched her website. Danielle, just like the two of us, has decided to pursue one of her passions: fashion. She has always believed that clothes can really help people express their individual personalities: “I love how an outfit can completely change a person’s mood or self-esteem with the addition of a pair of bold heels or a colorful bag. I want to sell clothing that makes women feel confident! Mixing that with my career in social media advertising has brought us here!” Her online store was officially launched April 15th, 2018 and we are here to share some of our favorite looks that we put together from ShopSocialGal:

        1. The Center of Attention Stripe Jumpsuit. Trust me, she called it this for a reason. It’s hard to tell you how many compliments I received when I wore it, but there was definitely a whole bunch. It’s certainly one of the best pieces I got to try on. The fabric is extremely soft and light. I combined it with this straw bag from Zara and these Rachelle-2 Suede Sandals from Vince.

Rompers Is My New Summer Loveimg_0002

      2. Fit For a Queen Navy Romper Maxi. There are two things that make this piece unique. First, it’s a short romper that is hidden beneath a full, long skirt, and second, it has an open back. So cute! It has a beautiful v-neck that allowed me to show off some of my favorite pieces of jewelry so far this summer. Could it get any better?!

Blue and White Striped Romper

     3. My Lucky Peonies Floral Off the Shoulder Dress. Like any good clothing store, ShopSocialGal stocked up on some cute floral dresses for summer, like this one. It is my absolute favorite, and I think the off-the-shoulder part must have something to do with it. Florals will never go out of style, that’s something that is guaranteed. I love to pair these types of dresses with my “Lavette” Perforated Peep Toe Bootie from Vince Camuto, especially when I’m trying to keep my look casual.

           4. Dance the Night Away Navy Romper. Who doesn’t have more than one jumpsuit in their closet, if not more than that? I love a good jumpsuit. They’re fast, easy and stylish.This one specifically was so cute and comfortable to wear. It would be perfect to wear to an outdoor event or street fest. You can dress it up with heels or dress it down with some flats. The jumpsuit really stands out, which means that you don’t need many accessories. Perfect for summer days or nights!

        ShopSocialGal is constantly adding more items to the collection, so there is always something new and on trend available! Danielle eventually wants to expand the store into bags, shoes, and jewelry. Possibly her own graphic tee line as well! All things that are comfortable and cute. We are so excited for this!

Happy Shopping!

That One Hair Oil that Made My Hair Look Picture Perfect

That One Hair Oil that Made My Hair Look Picture Perfect

       My story with Bumble and Bumble began the day I decided to make an appointment at the salon to cut my hair short. I just felt so bored with it at the time. After scrolling through Instagram on a daily (actually, more like an hourly) basis, I felt like my hair was lacking that picture-perfect shine all of the celebrities have.

Bumble and Bumble Invisible Hair Oil

       I had no idea whether cutting my hair would fix that issue, but I was definitely on a mission to get that haircut…that is, until I walked into Sephora and asked a consultant to show me the product that ended up bringing life and glow back to my hair. He handed me Bumble and Bumble hair oil. I fell in love and we have been together ever since.

Product that Makes My Hair Look Picture Perfect    Here are just a few reasons why you should invest in it yourself, and when I say invest, it’s because it is a bit on the pricey side…so listen up:

  • It contains six different kinds of oils that are very beneficial for your hair;
  • It doesn’t weigh down hair like some other hair oils tend to do;
  • The day you try this oil will be the day you say goodbye to split ends;
  • If you have curly hair, that probably means you have a close relationship with hot tools, and it’s no secret they cause hair damage. This oil will protect your hair from getting damaged while heat styling;
  • It will make your hair smell great even though it absorbs quickly;
  • I love using it on dry hair too since it helps to tame that annoying frizz;
  • A little goes a long way. I bought it about six months ago and have only gone through ¼ of the bottle;

Fast Absorbing Hair Oil      Friendly reminder: avoid using too much of the oil so your hair doesn’t get greasy. And please, please, please don’t put it on your roots! I’ve heard some people actually do that. Anyways, if you have been struggling to find a great hair oil that will keep your hair healthy, soft and moisturized, I think I may have solved that one for you today. I hope I did 🙂

Trending Spring Piece: Trench Coat

Trending Spring Piece: Trench Coat
     Good morning! Warmer weather is on its way! Could you think of any better combination than a trench coat and jeans for street style in spring?

     Pair it with different shoes and tops to get a variety of stylish looks. Sometimes it almost feels like an accessory: since that one piece will make you look trendy and fashionable at the same time.

      Don’t forget about sunglasses because details in fashion matter more than anything. You can find similar coat here, glossy boots from Vince Camuto here  and…. my favorite one piece that I wear with everything from Naked Wardrobe here. They just restocked so yes I bought another one. Currently I have two in my closet now. OH WELLLL.

Happy Wednesday!

How Do I Find My Everyday Motivation

How Do I Find My Everyday Motivation

       How do you keep those engines of motivation roaring? Sometimes a cup of coffee simply won’t cut it. No, you need REAL motivation. Where do you get yours?

      I’m a huuuuge fan of “how it all began” stories. I love learning about how brands were created and how successful companies were launched. There’s just something about reading the backstory of how a company started, often from humble beginnings, that makes anything seem possible. It lights me up and gets those creative wheels turning!

b5047ea0-3605-4682-b42f-f061f02ad495

      These kinds of stories might give you a better idea of what a company is all about, what their mission is at the core, but most importantly get some stories and experiences that inspire you to believe in your own ideas.

        One of my favorite podcasts in the beauty industry is @breakingbeauty. This is how I got to know and trust brands such as @drunkelephant, @glossier, @smashbox, @lancome, @caudalie and many more. It’s very interesting to take a look behind-the-scenes, get the inside scoop on what sparked a great business idea, learn how they started, find out how much money they invested at the very beginning, and how many years it took them to create another unicorn in the ultra-competitive beauty industry.

c044d609-1fe4-457e-b929-370f9a0c6498

     As I was going to our meeting this morning, I finally finished an episode about my favorite hair tools company, @invisibobble, which has changed my hair-ties game forever. But we won’t be talking about hair today. Instead, I want to share some advice that Sophie would like to give to those who are trying to navigate the business world:

“Do as much as you can possibly do, meaning only hire people on board if you really require them. If you can still do work yourself, do so, because as soon as you hire people, that’s a task you give away, which means you are farther away from that task and you have less control or understanding of that area. It’s very crucial in the beginning that you don’t hire too many people and you yourself don’t quite know what you are doing. That’s why you can’t pass that on to the rest of the team.”

Hope you’re feeling inspired! Happy Friday!

My Whole30 Challenge

My Whole30 Challenge
     “Don’t you dare tell us this is hard. Fighting cancer is hard. Birthing a baby is hard. Losing a parent is hard. Drinking your coffee black. Is. Not. Hard. You’ve done harder things than this, and you have no excuse not to complete the program as written. It’s only thirty days, and it’s for the most important health cause on earth—the only physical body you will ever have in this lifetime” – all I needed to hear to eliminate: 1) added sugar, real or artificial; 2) alcohol; 3) grains; 4) legumes; 5) dairy; 6) baked goods, junk foods, or treats with “approved” ingredients from my diet for whole 30 days with no exceptions (unless we are talking about my trip to Vegas – one glass of wine and a dessert, not too bad for Vegas, right?) So what’s there left to eat? Honestly, not much.
     I’m not a huge fan of the word “diet” since I feel like this one word kills the whole purpose of the program. Whole30 was created to help you change your emotional and physical relationship with food. This program exists so you can learn which food makes you feel good and which doesn’t, and if you loose weight that’s great, but be realistic and don’t expect crazy results.
      So here are a few things that I would like to share with you:
  1. It requires lots of cooking. Tons of cooking. So at some point I realized all I was doing is cooking and cleaning, and we are talking about hours and hours. I was physically exhausted and I’m not exaggerating. What was helpful is their app – Real Plans. The app will plan out everything for you: from recipes to how much of groceries to buy for a week ahead. It took me a second to get a hang of it, but once I did, everything got so much easier. Learn more about it here.
  2. Eating out is not an option. You will just annoy servers and everyone around you. Trust me. I’ve tried.
  3. Snack is not an option either. You have breakfast, lunch and dinner and you must stick with that only.
  4. Sugar. Oh my. That was my biggest fear. I still have no idea how I pulled it through, but I did. The hardest part is that you are in it alone. Watching people eating chocolate around me was intense.
  5. You will loose weight, but be realistic. It’s only 30 days. I started seeing results on day 12. Overall I lost 12 pounds, but I think working out did its part as well.
  6. You will feel sick. At least I did. I felt light headed here and there. And you can start rolling your eyes right about now, but in my opinion that’s what happens when you start changing your eating habits, your body will react to it in some way.
  7. Your skin will change. I think that was something that literally blew my mind. Again I was never into nutrition or anything in that sort, but seeing how flawless my skin was for 30 days really changed the way I look at food now.
  8. Around day 12 you won’t care for sugar, dairy or carbs. You could have drank or eaten anything in front of me and I didn’t care a bit.
  9. Be ready to feel sick once you start introducing food back into your diet. It took me about 2 weeks before I stopped feeling sick after consuming any kind of dairy or carbs. I was nervous for a second thinking maybe I messed my health up, so I started reasserting and looking for answers. Here is what I found on their forum:
       “One thing that happens when you eat foods that irritate your body is that your stomach develops a thicker mucosal lining to protect you from the irritation. When you do a Whole30, part of that lining sloughs off because it is no longer needed. So when you eat irritating foods again, your body is not as prepared to protect you as it was and you feel the irritation more notably than you did before. However, if you keep eating irritating foods, the mucosal lining will thicken again and begin to provide you the protection it did before”.
      It’s important to listen to your body and make healthy choices. Watching how my body and skin were reacting to certain foods changed my relationship with it forever. And don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying no to burgers and chocolate, I believe that everything is good in moderations.
     So who is joining me in my next Whole30 challenge?

Dark Navy Pants in Combination with Glossy Ankle Boots

Dark Navy Pants in Combination with Glossy Ankle Boots

      I have a hard time narrowing down my choices when it comes to social events. What to wear? I’m sure you hear/say this a lot: «I have nothing to wear», even though your closet is overloaded with clothes. I feel that appearing in public puts a little more pressure on you, especially if your business is all about beauty, fashion and styling.

c67bd717-ef15-4cde-a7ca-16ab29a08b88  About two weeks ago we attended #OakStreetFashionShow that took place @thompsonchicago. The best part was that all the proceeds of the event went to the Glass Slipper Project which is an organization that provides young girls the dresses and accessories to go to prom with. Being so passionate about fashion we know exactly how clothes can make you feel – powerful, strong, confident, and of course pretty. We find it so important for every girl to feel beautiful and feel that she fits in, regardless of what they can afford. If you would like to donate any dresses or accessories you can do so by following this link.  Sooooo about that night 👉🏻

I decided to go with dark blue @zara pants (too bad the pic is too dark to see the color) and I styled it with a black bodysuit. You can find similar pants here and here and here (I’m obsessed with the pair).

To make it more fun and trendy I went with a high crown hat (seriously the hottest thing of this season). Find similar here and here and here. And glossy boots from @vincecamuto.  Buy similar here and here and here.

Facial Oils in Your Skincare Routine

Facial Oils in Your Skincare Routine

       The other day we have asked you on Instagram if you would like to find out more about benefits of facial oils, and we received a “100%” yes! So here we are. We believe this information would be beneficial for everyone: girls with oily and combination skin, as well as for those with dry/sensitive skin.

   Many of you might already know about the benefits of facial oils and have incorporated it in your daily routine. The things that were are about to share with you below are nothing new and there is plenty of research that is available online. We would like to summarize the key points in this post. Let’s do this!

    I love True Botanicals. Not only they have amazing products (with Olivia Wild as a chief brand activist, duh ), but I find their skincare blog to be very informative. Here is what they have to say about facial oils versus moisturizers and creams:

“Creams and lotions are mostly waxes and water, with a few oils thrown in. Waxes form an occlusive layer on the skin, which helps to hold moisture in. That’s good, but there are two major downsides: wax build up may lead to clogged pores, and the wax barrier may prevent the oil component of the cream (the part of the product that actually benefits skin) from penetrating.”

    And that’s when I decided to give it a try. My skin is oily (hopefully that means less wrinkles down the line?), so I’m trying to eliminate anything that might increase oil production. Reading up on facial oils subject made me change my mind.

     Facial oils are great source of Omega3, vitamins and antioxidants. You always want to make sure that your skin gets all 3 because:

  • Omega3 helps your skin regulate oil production, retain moisture and prolong elasticity. According to Ann Yelmokas McDermott, PhD, “Fatty acids are responsible for the health of the cell membrane, which is not only what acts as the barrier to things that are harmful, but also the passageway for nutrients to cross in and out and for waste products to get in and out of the cell”.
  • Vitamins are essential to your skincare, just like they are to your health. If you don’t get enough vitamins your immune system gets weak and you are more prompt to catch a virus or cold. In regards to your skin, vitamins will help you reduce dark spots and redness, prevent from wrinkles and excessive dryness. List goes on and on.
  • Some antioxidants have anti-inflammatory benefits, that will keep acne and wrinkles at bay. Others will help with skin-firming. Sun-damaged may get a second chance, because certain antioxidants are proven to stimulate new cell growth.

       As we age our skin produces less oil, and becomes dull, dehydrated or even dry. Facial oils can help you rebalance oil production to achieve brighter, more supple skin by creating a barrier against pollutants.

        Makeup lovers there is a tip for you too. Anyone is familiar with dry patches on your skin after applying foundation. Using oil before makeup helps your coverage go on smoothly, for that flawless look we all strike for.

So when are you taking the plunge?

Your NDS Duo,

xoxo
